There are over two billion searches performed on Facebook every day, but relatively little is known about their search algorithm, especially compared to Google. They’ve now unveiled a bit more about how their searches work, so let’s see what they said.

We all know that Facebook is incredibly popular, but I didn’t realize that they get more than two billion searches per day on it. And while people complain about not understanding the details of how the Google search algorithm works, we actually know quite a lot about Google when compared to Facebook, who has revealed virtually nothing about theirs.
While you can’t really “SEO” the Facebook algorithm, it’s still good to understand more about how it works. There are really two main things to know:
1 – As you probably already know, your behavior influences your search results a lot. Things like posts that your friends have shared, pages you follow, groups you belong to, content you’ve liked or followed, etc. It’s also impacted by profile information that you’ve shared with Facebook.
2 – The second thing to know is that while Facebook can follow you to many other websites, searches you perform outside of Facebook don’t influence the search results. It’s only the moves you make while on Facebook that count.
This bit of info is nice, but like I said, you can’t really take SEO-type action to improve your visibility on Facebook. Instead, the same advice you’ve been hearing for a while is your best bet — staying engaged and active is the best thing you can do to help your company show up in Facebook search results.
